The Coopers arrive in Italy

Our supplies having failed to arrive in Italy I’ve had to parachute Barbara into a hair salon for treatment.

Crazy, crazy hot today – over 100 in the shade which is sadly not something we’re riding in. And its getting hotter! The water bottles get so hot after an hour it is impossible to drink the water. Some lovely Italian towns on the way but you seriously ask yourself was someone having a bit of a laugh. One twinned with that medieval delight called Watford and the other with the unrivalled charm of that gem of historic Britain, yes, that will be Peterborough. On to Carpi near Bologna tomorrow – just clocked up ( with wrong turns) 400 miles. Lots of very smart Italian cyclists on very nice bikes with matching apparel, lots of nice cars and we seem to have ended up in a barn on a vineyard. My sort of place. Still no punctures! Today’s tune -Madonna Like a Prayer I’ll Take You There.

  1. Loving the cycling commentary. Glad to hear you’ve completed the Greek leg and you’re making speedy progress. Keep on riding. Some Italian song suggestions… ‘Just one cornetto’, ‘That’s Amore’, ‘Papa loves mambo’…xx

  2. Peterborough is a cathedral city, unlike Watford and other places including the estuary of a major Kent river.

  3. Sounds like your going great guns and having a great adventure. Ronnie was just wondering what type of pads have you bought for your butt ache (not you Robin) . Janice said have you tried Huggies!

Putting us all to shame with your trans European trip. Maybe next time we all meet up it could involve a bike ride – not 1500 miles though!

Robin – imagine how many euros have been spent on those roads – can Tarmac be recycled!

Anyway carry on cycling and look forward to catching up on your return x

  4. Glad to hear it’s all going well – sorry to hear about your accident though Dad. Hope you are recovering ok. All was well at the Man of Kent. We had a heatwave there – enjoyed sunbathing in the garden in 27 degrees! Have made you a bottle of cordial using the elderflowers from your garden – it’s the yellow liquid in the fridge – in case you wonder what it is when you get back!

  5. Fantastic work you two. I am very impressed that you have managed to get yourselves all the way to Italy without any intentional parting of ways!! Barbara – you shall be re-named ‘Clementia’ – goddess of mercy and clemency!!

    Be safe

  6. PS A piece of black tar is having a quiet drink in a pub when a bit of red tar walks in – the barman whispers to the black tar: ‘if you take my advice you’ll stay away from him, he’s a bit of a cycle-path

    :)

  7. Well done Robin! Well done to you both. Following your every pedal (and blog) with awe, bated breath and suitable amusement! Truly inspiring! Good luck! Alex & Jo x

  8. Robin my family, from way back originate from Watford and Peterborough what are you saying? My 106 year old mother was going to sponsor you but now she’s so upset, we may have to send her to Italy to recover, she love’s all the Madonna statues on the road sides. She’d stay here but most of the roadsides are under water.
